Football in the house

The Table Football project allows young inventors to explore the fascinating world of mechanics and physics

With this project, creativity comes to life, learning that are no limits to imagination. Young inventors learn about mechanics and physics.

Through this experience, they have the opportunity to build a Table football, they customise their own players and simulate a football match.

All of this takes place in a stimulating environment where children’s inventive and creative spirit is nurtured, promoting teamwork, spontaneity, and curiosity

About InspiringInventors

Alejandro Finisterre

Alejandro Finisterre

1919-2007

Was a spanish poet, writer, and inventor, best known for creating and patenting the modern table football. His invention was inspired by his experiences during the Spanish Civil War. In 1936, during the Spanish Civil War, Finisterre was injured in a bombing and sent to a hospital in Montserrat, Catalonia. While recovering, he noticed that many wounded children could no longer play football due to their injuries. Inspired by the idea of tabletop games like chess, he conceptualised a miniature football game that could be played on a table, allowing disabled children to enjoy the sport. He collaborated with a Basque carpenter named Francisco Javier Altuna to build the first prototype and, in 1937, Finisterre patented his invention in Barcelona.

ConceptsCovered

Mechanics

Mechanics: In building the football table, the young inventors engage with basic mechanics concepts, using levers to which they will attach the players

Physics

  • Physics: The movement and collision of the ball, as well as the stability of the table, are realities that allow young inventors to engage with physics concepts!

Why this project?

The Table Footbal project was created with three main objectives:

  1. Exploring concepts of mechanics and physcis: In this project, the young inventors build a football table, customise the players, and then attach them to levers before simulating a football match! With this experience, they learn concepts related to physics and mechanics!
  2. Understanding the Relevance of this experience in society: With this experience, the young inventors learn what inspired Alejandro Finisterre to invent table football—something that promoted social inclusion and encouraged creativity in adapting games for different audiences, allowing people who could not take part in a traditional game to enjoy the sport in an adapted way.
  3. Encouraging Creativity and an Inventive Spirit: By taking part in this  process, children develop skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and motor coordination.

At the end of the sessions, children will also gain a newfound appreciation for the world of mechanics, celebrating their success by building their own Table Football!

Together, let’s discover how this experience makes imagination score incredible goals!

Challenges for you

Ask your young inventor what excited them the most in class, or try out the project at home. Turn this moment into a championship to the whole family!

For the boldest ones, how about recording and sharing it with us on social media? We’d love to showcase the best goals in the Table Football!
