Clean energy

This project allows young inventors to explore the world of clean energy

With Solar Beetle project, creativity takes on a new energy. By building this project, young inventors gain an understanding of how sunlight can be converted into energy! Through this experience, children have the opportunity to explore concepts related to clean energy, solar power, and solar panels. All of this takes place in an inspiring environment that values children’s inventive and creative spirit, encouraging teamwork, spontaneity, and curiosity.

About InspiringInventors

Maria Telkes

Maria Telkes

1900-1995

She was a hungarian-american biophysicist, engineer, and inventor who worked on solar energy technologies. She moved to the United States of America in 1925 to work as a biophysicist and became an American citizen in 1937. During the Second World War, she developed a solar water distillation device, which was used at the end of the war and saved the lives of aircraft pilots and sailors. Her goal was to create a version for communities in poor and arid regions. Maria Telkes was often referred to as the “Sun Queen” and is considered one of the pioneers of solar thermal storage systems. After the war, she became an associate research professor at MIT.

ConceptsCovered

Clean Energy and Solar Energy

  • Clean Energy: Renewable energy sources that do not pollute the environment.
  • Solar Energy: Energy obtained by converting sunlight into electricity

Solar Panels

  • Solar panels: Devices that convert sunlight into electricity using solar cells.

Why this project?

The Solar Beetle project was created with three main objectives:

Exploring the world of sunlight: In this project, young inventors will build a beetle out of MDF, with a propeller powered by sunlight. The aim is for children to realise how sunlight can be converted into energy through solar panels, making the beetle vibrate and emit a distinctive sound.

Understanding the relevance of this experience in society: Through this activity, young inventors will discover how the concepts explored in the Solar Beetle project play a crucial role in contexts such as smart cities and electric vehicles, for example.

Encouraging Creativity and Inventive Thinking: By taking part in this process, young inventors will develop skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and motor coordination.

At the end of the project, the young inventors will have gained a deeper understanding of clean energy, celebrating their success by building their very own Solar Beetles. This experience highlights a clear link between creativity and the future!

Together, let’s boost the energy of curiosity!

Challenges for you
