Curiosity will go up!

The Lift-O-Fun projet allows children to explore the fascinating world of physics

In the Lift-O-Fun project, young inventors will explore concepts like counterweight!

The Lift-O-Fun experience is a practical and fun activity where students will create a Lift for gadget enthusiasts and engine lovers!! With a rotating axis, they will
make a lift work. It’s an up-and-down ride of emotions!

About InspiringInventors

Elisha Otis

Elisha Otis

1811-1861

Was an american industrialist and founder of the Otis Elevator Company. In 1853, he invented a safety device that prevents elevators from falling if the hoisting cable fails.  On March 23, 1857, he installed the first safety elevator for passenger service in the store of E.V. Haughwout & Co. in New York City.

ConceptsCovered

Counterweight

Counterweight: In the realm of lifts, counterweights play a crucial role as silent stabilizers.
Picture them as efficient partners maintaining balance, attached on the opposite end of your lift
ride. These heavyweights ensure a smooth ascent and descent, minimizing any wobbles. So, the
next time you step into a lift, appreciate the real hero – the trusty counterweight – quietly
ensuring a steady and safe journey.

Motors

Motors: In lifts, motors serve as the essential engines, converting electricity into mechanical
power to facilitate smooth vertical movement. They power the pulley system or traction
mechanism, which controls the lift’s ascent and descent. Whether it’s a traditional lift or a
modern gearless system, the motor plays a central role in making your vertical travels safe and
efficient.

Why this project?

The Lift-O-Fun project was created with three main objectives:

  1. Understanding the importance of concepts: This project aims to teach young inventors about physics concepts, such as counterweights. By building the Lift-O-Fun, students will have fun and understand how lifts work
  2. Explaining the relevance on nowadays: This experience allows young inventors to understand that the concepts of electric motors and elevators have paved the way for innovations such as cable-free lifts, which can move horizontally, and more sustainable technologies, like solar-powered elevators. Furthermore, automation and the Internet of Things (IoT) continue to enhance the efficiency and safety of these systems
  3. Focus in Creativity and an Inventive Spirit: By taking part in this  process, children develop skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and motor coordination.

At the end of the session, in addition to building a Lift , the young inventors will also gain a new appreciation for the world of physics

Together, we will lift the Imagination

Challenges for you
