Light up the clouds

The Electronic Cloud project allows children to explore the fascinating world of electronics in a fun and hands-on way!

The “Electronic Cloud” experience invites students to create a “magical cloud”, which is actually a fascinating light display made with RGB LEDs. Through this hands-on activity, students learn basic electronic concepts.

This experience sparks children’s curiosity and creativity about the world of electronics. It allows children to learn important electronic concepts in a practical and enjoyable context, encouraging them to explore the world around them with an inventive mindset. This reflects the mission of inspiring future inventors and innovators to think outside the box and apply their knowledge in innovative ways.

Edith Clarke

Edith Clarke

(1883-1959)

Was the first woman to be professionally employed as an electrical engineer in the United States[, and the first female professor of electrical engineering in the country. She was the first woman to deliver a paper at the American Institute of Electrical Engineers; the first female engineer whose professional standing was recognized by Tau Beta Pi, the oldest engineering honor society and the second oldest collegiate honor society in the United States; and the first woman named as a Fellow of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. She specialized in electrical power system analysis and wrote Circuit Analysis of A-C Power Systems.

RGB

RGB: The children learn that RGB stands for the primary colour system of light – Red, Green, and Blue.

Electronic Components

  • LEDs: Children will understand that LEDs are semiconductor diodes that convert electrical energy
into light energy. The colour of the light emitted depends on the material it is made from.
  • SWITCH: Children will engage with how switches work, understanding this is a component that controls the ow of electrical current.

Why this project?

The Electronic Cloud project was created with three main objectives:

  1. Understanding the importance of concepts: Through this hands-on activity, students learn basic electronics concepts, and also understanding how to manage and manipulate light in modern devices.
  2. Experience the RGB system: In this project, children engage with the experience of using switches and how they control the colours emitted by the LEDs, switching between red, green, blue, and their combinations
  3. Encouraging Creativity and an Inventive Spirit: By taking part in this process, children develop skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and motor coordination. In the end, transforming a simple cotton cloud into a magnificent light show with magical RGB LEDs makes this experience even more special.”

At the end of the session, in addition to building an Electronic Cloud, the children will also gain a new appreciation for the world of eletronics, while celebrating their success with the creation of a magical light cloud.

Together, we discover how electronics lights up the universe!

Challenges for you

Ask your inventor what was most excited about the session or challenge them to create an Electronic Cloud at home!

For the boldest ones, how about sharing the impact of the clouds created at home with us on social media?
